Natural wines in Chile have less visibility than industrial wines, which are distributed massively in international markets. However, they are distinguished by their greater tradition, cultural breadth, territorial roots, and social significance. Furthermore, they correspond to a different model within the wine culture. While industrial wines are subordinated to the French paradigm in enology and to the US paradigm in technology and commercial matters, Chilean natural wines preserve winemaking procedures from the old Hispanic and autochthonous grapevine varieties paradigm developed in Chile between the sixteenth and nineteenth centuries. In recent years, some of those traditional winemaking procedures have regained strength in the new context where overindustrialization is questioned.
