The large-scale use of electricity began with the construction of the first power plants. The world's first power plant ran in New York in 1882 with an output of 500 kW. In Germany, the first power plant went into operation in Berlin in 1884 [1]. The first three-phase power plant was built as early as 1891. The further development of power plant technology proceeded at a rapid pace towards higher and higher outputs. At the beginning of the twentieth century, almost all large cities in the industrialised countries were supplied with electricity.
