The realisation of turnkey wind energy projects means much more than the manufacture or purchase of a wind turbine and its installation at the site. Planning the location of a wind turbine or wind farm requires the consideration of a variety of factors. In addition to the wind speed, there are primarily environmental criteria that determine the suitability of the location. Generating electrical energy from wind power interferes with the existing energy infrastructure and even more so with the environment in the immediate vicinity. As such, it inevitably encounters resistance from those who do not consider this intervention necessary or do not want it for some other reasons. This is the field of tension in which the planning of wind energy projects takes place. It is thus less a technical problem than the usually protracted effort to balance the various interests until a consensual solution is found.
