Windmills and Windwheels
摘要
The use of wind energy is not a new technology; it is the rediscovery of a technology steeped in tradition. How important wind power technology was in the past is no longer apparent today from the remnants of the historical “wind turbines”. So complete was the triumphant advance of the cheap energy sources coal and oil and the convenient distribution of energy through electricity that the losers, the windmills and wind turbines, could only maintain themselves in insignificant economic niches. After energy production by burning coal and oil or splitting uranium atoms met with resistance - whatever the various reasons for this may be - the rediscovery of wind power was an almost inevitable consequence.
