This chapter critically examines the existing climate policies and advocates for a decolonial approach to integrate indigenous perspectives, thereby creating more inclusive and effective frameworks. It highlights the shortcomings of current Western-centric climate policies that often overlook the unique contexts and needs of indigenous communities. Through detailed analysis and case studies, this chapter underscores the importance of incorporating Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK), ensuring meaningful participation of indigenous peoples in decision-making processes, and protecting their land rights. By showcasing successful indigenous-inclusive climate initiatives in the Lake Chad Basin and beyond, this chapter provides a roadmap for policymakers to develop more sustainable and equitable climate strategies.
