In this introductory chapter, the aim is to present and historically situate the central theme of this book, namely, the engagement of young people in the “radical right” in Brazil and Germany. By identifying the temporal coincidence of the major demonstrations known as the June Journeys of 2013 in Brazil and the founding of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, the potential of a comparative investigation between the two nations is highlighted. Despite the distinct political regimes, unique historical contexts, and different welfare regimes, common elements are evident in terms of the stabilization and occupation of public spaces by such movements and social actors. Some of the main theoretical references of this study are also presented, highlighting the existing gap in terms of comparative studies on the radical right in these regions of the world.

摘要
