A Cognitive Study of the Ageing Behaviour of Advanced Fuels

At the beginning of the third millennium, mobility is changing faster than ever. Many new technologies are emerging in different fields. The role of liquid fuels in the coming decades will be markedly different from what we have been used to in the last century. Not only is electricity taking over part of the mobility supply, but new liquid fuels with better environmental characteristics are also being developed. The work presented here focuses on fuel storage and ageing, as this plays a crucial role in engine performance. The main fuel components and the most important candidates are presented. A new method for evaluating storage-related quality is developed. Results show that new components have significantly shorter storage times based on increased ageing. New research directions in fuel quality and storage technology are identified to expand this bottleneck.
