It unites the historical and contemporary dimensions of Kurdish genocides, highlighting innumerable genocides against the Kurds in Iraq, Iran, Turkey, Syria, and the former Soviet Union. The chapter focuses on the evolving manifestations of genocide that are explored in this handbook, from explicit physical annihilation to manifestations of cultural erasure, linguicide, and ecocide, describing how nation-states have designed these through different political regimes. The chapter addresses the long-term psychological, social, and economic consequences for Kurdish survivors, with a particular focus on intergenerational trauma that continues to influence Kurdish identity and movements of resistance. Additionally, it denounces the failure of international legal processes and genocide prevention policy, for which the Kurdish situation is persistently denied global justice.
