A major theme examined throughout the course of the chapter is the level of societal respect that correctional personnel feel they are afforded as compared to their policing and judicial counterparts, which contrasts with how important their perspective is in the ongoing discussion of intimate partner violence (IPV). IPV and the corrections system (including both facilities and community programs) are inextricably linked; the overwhelming weight of empirical evidence indicates that both male and female inmates and individuals who are on community supervision have extensive exposure to domestic violence. Corrections personnel can speak insightfully about the generational impact of trauma, the results of which they witness daily, and the penultimate part of this chapter consists of recommendations for how they can best communicate those critical observations on social media platforms. This chapter contends that correctional officers (COs) and probation/parole officers can lend insights that are crucial to fostering public understanding about the seriousness of intimate partner violence and how it takes a dramatic toll on society; in other words, laymen might have the misconception that all prisoners are inherently evil superpredators, while corrections personnel who work with them most frequently can best contextualize the impact of trauma on this population.
