Protection of Geographical Indications in the Digital Transformation Era: A Comparative Legal Study of International Legislation

Within a comparative legal framework, this study aims to evaluate the influence of geographical indications on safeguarding local products and enhancing their quality and safety. The focus is on how technology can reinforce this protection. The examination delves into the role of geographical indications in upholding the rights of local producers and bolstering their competitiveness. Furthermore, it explores how digital transformation and modern technologies, such as blockchain and artificial intelligence, can contribute to and enhance the safeguarding of these indications. The study also addresses the legal and legislative obstacles associated with implementing geographical indications in the digital realm. Multiple legal frameworks are reviewed and compared to international standards. Utilizing an analytical and critical approach, the study emphasizes the necessity of improving legislation concerning geographical indications to ensure comprehensive and effective protection in the digital environment, benefiting both producers and consumers. The study concludes that there is an immediate need to develop legal frameworks that enhance the efficacy of geographical indication protection in the context of digital transformation. Additionally, raising awareness among producers and consumers about the significance of these indications is crucial. The study recommends strengthening international cooperation and providing additional support for research and development in this field to improve protection effectiveness and enhance the economic competitiveness of local products in the digital market.
