Witness testimony is pivotal in legal proceedings, as it significantly influences the outcomes of trials and investigations. This research investigates the factors affecting witness memory accuracy and explores how lawyers facilitate accurate recall during testimony. Focusing on eyewitnesses and lay witnesses, the study highlights the burdens eyewitnesses face, including the impact of shock and memory distortion. Through the analysis of a YouTube video and the renowned Loftus and Palmer experiment (1974), the research reveals how language and leading questions can alter witness memory. Effective strategies for enhancing memory recall include cognitive interviewing, avoiding leading questions, and using visual aids like maps and pictures. These methods, alongside narrative techniques, enable witnesses to provide more accurate and detailed testimonies. The findings underscore the importance of strategic questioning and visual support in legal contexts to ensure reliable witness testimony.
