Within the pages of this book, I attempted to put forward a more nuanced way of understanding and discussing the strikingly sophisticated country of Afghanistan and the people inhabiting it. This manuscript is the result of many years of hard work, an immense amount of effort, and countless hours of reflection. It is difficult to say where the history-in-the-making of Afghanistan might turn. The victory of the Taliban and the reincarnation of the unrecognized Islamic Emirate complicated much of the vector of the social and political processes in the Afghan communities in unimaginable ways.
