Optic Pit Maculopathy
摘要
Optic pits are colobomatous defects of the optic nerve usually presenting as hypopigmented lesions located in the inferotemporal part of the disc. They are usually seen as unilateral congenital anomaly; but rarely may be associated with glaucoma and myopia. Men and women are equally affected, with an incidence of 1/10,000. Most cases are asymptomatic, but some patients develop vision loss due to serous macular detachment. While a moderate decline in visual acuity is typically observed in the early period after serous macular detachment development, untreated, chronic cases may develop intraretinal cystoid degeneration, lamellar or full-thickness macular hole, and permanent severe (<20/200) visual impairment due to retinal pigment epithelium atrophy in the chronic course. A large optic pit may also cause an enlarged blind spot and paracentral arcuate scotoma.
