Vitreomacular traction (VMT) was first described 50 years ago as cystoid macular edema (CME) in phakic and aphakic patients and leakage in the foveal region on fluorescein angiography. We now know that VMT is a macular pathology caused by focal (≤1500 μm) or broad-based (>1500 μm) vitreoretinal traction that develops during posterior vitreous detachment (PVD). Although there are many clinical subtypes, VMT generally includes three common vitreoretinal interface features:
