The restoration of ecosystems can be divided into terrestrial and aquatic habitat restoration. Different approaches are required to restore tropical, boreal, and temperate forests. We also include the rewilding of home gardens and backyards. In each case, examples with corresponding programs are provided. For aquatic habitats, river and lake restorations are explained separately. Procedures for restoring river systems include the management of banks, alignment, and pollution removal. For lakes, we discuss how to assess and improve the habitat quality of lakeshores and how poor water quality can be improved using aeration and nanobubbles. Wetlands are located between terrestrial and aquatic biotopes. We showcase coastal areas of lakes, fens, and bogs and how these ecosystems can be restored. Specific examples of their destruction and measures for their restoration process are discussed. Raised bogs are exceptional biotopes threatened by peat extraction and drainage. A simple measure using backwatering is presented.
