This chapter explores the concept of community trauma, emphasizing its distinction from individual trauma and its widespread effects on entire groups, communities, or societies. Community trauma, or collective trauma, is often rooted in social inequities such as racism, poverty, and oppression. We examine the ways in which social-cultural, physical/built, and economic environments influence the onset and persistence of community trauma, including symptoms like structural violence and marginalization. Drawing on the “three Es” framework, we analyse how traumatic events impact mental and physical health, with a focus on the role of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) in shaping long-term outcomes. This chapter further discusses the impact of chronic and complex traumas, such as community violence, discrimination, and natural disasters, and presents strategies to mitigate these effects. These strategies include creating safe spaces, fostering social relationships, supporting economic and educational opportunities, and promoting cultural identity. This chapter concludes with an integrated approach to preventing and addressing community trauma through culturally relevant interventions and community-driven solutions.

摘要
