There exist named and anonymous women trouvères, women who composed lyrics in Old French, during the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. Their songs participate in the poetic activities of the time and give modern readers a sense of medieval women’s issues. The feelings expressed in these attributed and anonymous pieces, many associated with music, show elements of life for medieval women that are not expressed by male authors as well as uniquely female emotional experiences.
