Janabai, a medieval Indian saint-poet composing in the Marathi language, is of particular importance as a shudra (lower caste) woman author. She possibly has the largest corpus (more than 340 poems) among the female Varkari saints. The themes of her poems range from her social realities to mythological stories of Krishna to philosophical contemplations.
