Ancient India, especially in Tamil Nadu, encouraged women to contribute to society and literature by providing them a higher social respect with the title, “Avvaiyar.” Women from different eras and different dynasties have been awarded this title, which gave them a saint-like position in society. Even in this century, people remember these women as ideal beings and their literature as the glorified his(her)story of Tamil Nadu. There are also several women poets, who are specifically meant when “Avvaiyar” is mentioned.
