Queen Leonor of Lancaster is a well-known queen consort in medieval Portuguese history. Born into Portuguese nobility, patron of the arts, and benefactor to the church, Leonor exercised regency multiple times across her life and was someone whose opinion was valued by the ruling monarch. Immensely powerful throughout her life, a large portion of it lived in widowhood, Leonor took the opportunity to sponsor the printing press and other literary works. She was also the patroness of a few illuminated manuscripts.
