Gwerful Fychan (born c.1430) was a late medieval poet working in Penllyn in Gwynedd, North Wales, in the parish of Llanuwchllyn. She resided at Caer-gai, which she held from her ancestor figure, Rhirid Flaidd (fl. c.1160), a nobleman of Powys. While most of her work is not extant, five surviving poems in Welsh have been tentatively attributed to her, in both englyn and cywydd meters. She is the earliest known poet in the canon of Welsh poetry written by women, and she and her milieu are to be included among the beirdd yr uchelwyr (poets of the gentry), of postconquest Wales. Her husband, Tudur Penllyn ( c.1420– c.1485–90), was also a poet, and her two children, daughter Gwenllïan ferch Rhirid Flaidd (fl. c.1460) and son Ieuan ap Tudur Penllyn (fl. c.1480), were poets as well.
