Constança of Aragon
摘要
Constança of Aragon was the queen consort of the Kingdom of Mallorca from 1336 to 1344 as the first wife of King Jaume III of Mallorca. Constança was held captive by her brother, King Pere IV of Aragon (r. 1336–1387), to force King Jaume. to renounce his throne. Between 1343 and 1349, Mallorca was contested by Constança’s husband and brother as both fought for full control of the Kingdom of Mallorca’s island territories (Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza, and Formentera) and its peninsular territories (Roussillon and Cerdanya in modern France). Scholars argue that Constança is one of two possible authors of a Catalan language poem entitled La Reyna de Mallorques. The anonymous poem is written from the perspective of an imprisoned queen believed to be Constança or her husband’s second wife, Violante.
