Matilda (Roheise) Becket (d. c. 1141) is best known as the mother of Thomas of London, Archbishop of Canterbury (b. c. 1120–1170), whose murder caused reverberations throughout Europe. Matilda is credited with composing an Anglo-Norman prayer for help and support in childbirth, preserved in two manuscripts: the Du Bois Hours (c. 1325–30), now New York, Pierpoint Morgan Library MS M. 700, and the Percy Hours (first quarter of the fifteenth century), now London, British Library MS Harley 1260.
