Christina von Hane (1269-c.1292) was a Premonstratensian nun and visionary mystic about whose life very little is known. Her German vernacular Vita may have originated with Christina’s unnamed male confessor and was likely modified by anonymous scribes in the years following her death. Sent to the convent at age 6, Christina began to have visions and auditions of Christ and the Virgin Mother that lasted through her short lifetime, during which she adopted a rigorous regimen to combat each of the seven deadly sins. The Vita describes rapturous states in which Christina, seemingly oblivious to the world, would have visions while remaining able to speak. The text reflects the influence of bridal mysticism as well as the teachings of Meister Eckhart. The Vita breaks off abruptly with no account of Christina’s death.
