Scivias is a major visionary work written by Hildegard of Bingen (1098–1179), a Benedictine Abbess at Disibodenberg and Rupertsberg in the Rhineland. Hildegard was a scientist and an artist, as well as a religious leader, and Scivias presents her theology, cosmology, and artistry as it recounts, in three parts, in a series of 27 visions, illustrated by illuminations probably supervised by Hildegard herself. The work ends with a short version of the Ordo virtutem, an allegorical play of the virtues.
