Annora de Briouze (also spelled “de Braose”) was the daughter of a leading English baron and the widow of another, who became an anchoress at Iffley, Oxfordshire, in the first half of the thirteenth century. There are reasons to connect her with the development of the text of Ancrene Wisse.
