Elisabeth of Schönau
摘要
Elisabeth of Schönau (ca. 1129–1164) was a twelfth-century Benedictine nun who claimed to have visionary experiences throughout her adult life. Working with the nuns of her convent and her brother Ekbert (ca. 1120–1184), Elisabeth produced a range of textual accounts of her extraordinary experiences, including autobiographical reflections as well as moral, pastoral, and theological teachings. Both by word of mouth and the widespread circulation of these texts, Elisabeth’s fame grew in her lifetime and extended throughout the Middle Ages.
