Christina Ebner (1277–1356) was a German mystic at the Dominican convent of Engelthal, who wrote, in the vernacular, her experiences of grace and divine revelations ( Leben und Offenbarungen) and the Engelthal sister book. In the fourteenth century, Engelthal was a wealthy, noble convent with a rich culture of mystical spirituality and literary activity. Ebner’s mystical revelations survive in two separate texts that record her experiences of God’s grace and presence, dialogues with Christ, temptation by the devil, and Ebner’s ascetic and spiritual practices, while the sister book chronicles the history of Engelthal and the mystical experiences of its deceased sisters, patrons, and chaplains.
