Marguerite Porete
摘要
Marguerite Porete (d. 1310) was a beguine from Hainaut, Flanders, and author of Le Mirouer des simples âmes (The Mirror of Simple Souls), a treatise of mystical theology outlining the seven stages of “annihilation” the Soul undergoes on its journey to divine union. Marguerite’s text fell afoul of the Inquisitorial authorities around the year 1300, ultimately leading to Marguerite’s execution for heresy in Paris on June 1, 1310. Marguerite’s Mirouer continued to circulate widely, albeit anonymously, in four medieval languages and exerted a lasting influence on the history of European spirituality.
