St. Albans Psalter
摘要
The St. Albans Psalter is a lavishly illustrated book produced at St. Albans Abbey around 1130. At that time, the abbot Geoffrey de Gorron was the devoted patron and companion of a local hermitess Christina of Markyate. The psalter includes many innovative and often puzzling features including its codicology, theology, and use of the Old French language. The contemporary Life of Christina of Markyate provides an intimate and personal context for creating the psalter, explaining many of the preoccupations of its patron and quirks of its iconography.
