Integrating Healthy Eating and Drinking into Daily Life
摘要
Hypertension, diabetes, obesity, and chronic kidney disease are examples of health conditions that can be prevented or controlled through diet. However, in the United States, a substantial segment of the population has or is susceptible to one or more of these conditions. Research has demonstrated the health benefits of a balanced diet. Several national health organizations and the US government have developed provider- and patient-facing educational contents to reduce the burden of these conditions. Yet food insecurity, limited health literacy, and limited digital access are barriers that may hinder the patient’s ability to successfully access and incorporate these evidence-based nutrition recommendations. Efforts are being made to address those social determinants of health. As these endeavors are developing, registered dietitian nutritionists (RDNs) who are experts in their specialties can support these efforts by providing insights on the type of individualized nutrition interventions that is necessary to promote a healthful dietary lifestyle for the US population.
