This chapter first provides a brief historical overview of the European Parliament (EP) elections in Slovakia. In the second part, we place the 2024 EP elections in Slovakia within a broader election cycle that began with the parliamentary elections in September 2023 and continued with two rounds of presidential elections in March and April of 2024. We argue that the structuring of political competition, dominant campaign topics, and the performance of the new ruling coalition that emerged from the parliamentary elections were further intensified by the subsequent elections, including the EP elections. In the third part, we delve into the major components of the electoral system and campaign rules regulating EP elections, and analyse the EP campaigns by parties, candidates and main topics. Finally, we explain the EP election results and their impact on political competition in Slovakia, as well as their implications for EU politics.
