The 2024 EP election in Malta marked the beginning of the decline of the decade-old labour government. From 2009 until 2024, the Labour Party had won an absolute majority in every national election held since then. However, after a decade, the impact of various political scandals, political assassination, and corruption scandals started catching up, and Labour only secured a relative majority. This chapter examines the political landscape leading to the 2024 EP elections in Malta, and discusses briefly the main parties’ election manifestos, the results and the likely way forward.
