The objective of this article is to examine the experience of international environmental projects designed to conserve and restore biodiversity. In order to achieve the goals of sustainable development, the article will identify and generalise the characteristics of effective management approaches that have been applied in such projects. The authors examine the experience of implementing joint international environmental projects with the objective of achieving sustainable development goals. The role of donors and the direction of international project implementation for large protected areas, such as national parks, biosphere reserves or nature reserves, is considered. This study analyses a selection of projects supported by the Global Conservation organisation. The Danube Transnational Programme (Interreg Danube) is examined in detail, with particular attention paid to the principal objectives and strategic orientations of the various projects. The principal focus of the Horizon Europe programme has been established. This analysis considers international projects involving Ukraine that aim to conserve the biodiversity of flora and fauna in the territories and objects of the nature reserve fund. The primary vector of international environmental projects is then identified based on the data obtained. The analysis of the directions and implementation of international environmental projects has led to the formulation of recommendations for the improvement of the management of such projects at the national level.
