Minimization of Goal Deviations in Bottling Industry Using Lexicographic Programming Technique

To achieve predetermined goals, considering the limitations of real-world resources, effective and elegant production systems play a vital role. With this in mind, this study was conducted to develop a goal programming (GP) model, aimed at minimizing the difference between desired goals and actual achievements. Although goal programming ideas have been studied in other works of literature, this study focuses on the bottling sector in particular and accounts for unforeseen variations. The three goals considered were maximization of profit, minimization of cost of production, and achieving the demand target. The study employed the lexicographic goal programming method for data analysis. The Lingo 20.0 software was utilized to solve the formulated goal programming models. Priority 1 was to minimize the underachievement of profit goal, while priority 2 was to minimize the overachievement of the cost goals and underachievement of demand goals. It was discovered that the global optimal solution was found at the objective value of 0 in priority 1. In priority 2, the global optimal solution was found at the objective value of 269,013. This analysis provides insights into the impact of unforeseen changes on overall production planning and goal achievement.
