Addressing the concept of “cultural resistance”, this chapter explores the diverging roles and voices of artists involved with military action in the besieged city: whether as soldiers on the front line, in administrative positions in the army, or as external actors contributing to the war effort. By doing so, it addresses the numerous ways in which ordinary people were confronted with violence in civilian spaces and how they navigated the same, using the institution of the army as a theoretical proxy.
