A 62 years old sliding truss girder steel bridge over the 42 m strait of Euripos, Greece was evaluated. It includes inspection of structure, set up numerical simulation, dynamic and static loading tests in situ, evaluation of detected structural condition at ultimate limit state, fatigue calculation based on the principles of fracture mechanics and recommendations for necessary interventions to safely extend the bridge lifetime. The proposed measures were established under consideration of the historical and aesthetic character of the bridge, emphasizing the need, for diligent and regular future inspection.
