The Digital Identity of Journalists Considering the New Digital Communication (an Applied Study on a Sample of Iraqi Journalists)
摘要
The current study was conducted to explore the digital identity of journalists as a new phenomenon due to the spread of new digital communication. This was achieved by conducting a field study on a sample of Iraqi journalists. The study used a descriptive methodology, with data collected through a questionnaire that was widely circulated to 100 Iraqi journalists in a random sample. The study findings indicated that most journalists are young and that a significant proportion is too worried about showing their identity as a journalist on websites because of security fears and political reservations. The findings also revealed the growing trend of digital journalism and the extent of the spread of the use of pseudo-names among journalists. Moreover, the study drew a clear picture of the role of digital communication in delineating the identity of journalism itself, impacting the popularity of its pioneers, and facilitating access to information for everyone. Hence, the current study recommends journalists embrace the digital revolution and confront its challenges by acquiring skills and new identities and committing to professionalism and ethics.
