Q Methodology in Counseling Training and Practice
摘要
This chapter explores the evolution and application of Q methodology in counseling, focusing on its utility in understanding diverse perspectives central to counselor education and practice. The methodology’s integration into areas such as theoretical orientation, multicultural competence, mentorship, and client perspectives is examined, with particular attention to its contributions in addressing complex counseling challenges. Key studies highlight Q methodology’s ability to capture counselors’ subjective experiences with topics like countertransference, mentorship styles, and client perspectives on gender identity, poverty, and long COVID recovery. The chapter also addresses how Q methodology informs counselor preparation by examining theoretical constructs and facilitating experiential learning, ultimately enhancing cultural competence and ethical practice. Finally, the chapter underscores the importance of integrating Q methodology into future research to promote inclusive practices in counseling and better understand both client and counselor perspectives in therapeutic settings.
