Young children’s language and literacy learning occurs in the context of the home literacy environment (HLE). Children who grow up in high-quality HLEs start school better prepared for the learning of spelling and reading. As the quality of the HLE can readily be improved by interventions, it is a good target for the support of children’s developing language and literacy skills. This chapter will focus on interventions in the HLE. Here, general aspects of successful family literacy interventions, comprehensive and non-intensive interventions, and digital literacy interventions will be discussed and an overview of recent meta-analytic findings will be provided. The chapter concludes with open questions and a summary. As children’s learning can be enhanced during everyday interactions and simple activities in the family, policy and practice should focus on the implementation of successful intervention approaches in the HLE.

摘要
