The transition from Chief Resident to attending physician marks a pivotal moment of realization and anxiety. Suddenly responsible for every aspect of patient care, the attending must navigate the intricate dynamics of a high-stakes environment, particularly in labor and delivery. This chapter explores the firsthand experiences and reflections of a Chief Resident and a seasoned labor and delivery nurse. Here we delve into the challenges of assuming the attending role, emphasizing the pivotal role of effective communication. Nurses emerge as invaluable allies, providing critical insights into patient well-being. This chapter underscores the importance of timely, clear, and respectful communication, fostering a sense of teamwork that enhances camaraderie, ownership, and accountability, thereby ensuring patient safety. Conflict within the healthcare team is inevitable, but its resolution is important for a safe and effective environment.
