Transitioning to the role of junior attending in academic obstetrics & gynecology (OB/GYN) is learning to supervise, mentor, teach, and foster a healthy learning environment for residents. One must strike a balance in allowing residents enough independence to make their own mistakes and learn from them but also know when to step in to prevent patient harm. Residency is a complex process, and knowing how to support the residents through their training is essential. Mentoring and teaching residents can be rewarding. Promoting a positive working relationship is crucial, as residents are the future generation of physicians in the field of OB/GYN.
