Working with medical students during their clinical years is a rewarding but challenging experience. The OBGYN clerkship has long been one of the lowest-rated clerkship experiences by graduating medical students, which likely stems from the fast-paced nature, long work hours, and strict hierarchical structure within the specialty. Teaching faculty should work toward creating a positive learning environment for students while working on being an effective clinical educator. Most teaching faculty will have clinical responsibilities in which they will need to integrate students. Given the many settings in which OBGYN clinical faculty will work—the OR, the office, labor and delivery, and inpatient—it can sometimes be challenging to master clinical education in the specialty. Teaching students takes time, and balancing student education with clinical responsibilities is difficult. However, it is crucial to teach basic OBGYN concepts to the next generation of physicians.
