In face of climate change and the harmful effects of the misuse of fossil fuels, the use of new and renewable energies is essential as a solution for the salvation of humanity. In addition to the harmful effects of the misuse of fossil energy sources, there is environmental pollution by plant waste such as post-harvest waste (cocoa pods, rice husks and straws, coffee and peanut shells, etc.) but also waste from the consumption of fruits such as mango pits and skins or other foodstuffs of plant origin. This plant waste, left in nature, becomes putrescible and releases toxic gases that are harmful to both the environment and human health, whereas they can be recycled into bioenergy or biofertiliser. As for mango, a very perishable fruit, there is a lot of post-harvest loss due to diseases and pests, but there is also waste coming out of the processing units installed in the localities shown in Fig. 1. It is with a view to recovering this waste energetically that samples of mango pits from Côte d'Ivoire were collected to be carbonized in a muffle oven. The aim is to determine the experimental conditions for the manufacture of a bio-charcoal from these mango pits. From the experimental results obtained, it appears that a heating rate of 10°C/min to reach a maximum temperature of 250°C and a holding time at this temperature of two (2) hours make it possible to obtain a good-textured coal with a calorific value of 34.98 MJ/kg. These results show that mango pits can be validly transformed into biochar and used as fuel just like charcoal. Its large-scale production can therefore become a source of income for the producers of this fruit who suffer a lot of post-harvest losses in the fields and also for the processing units that could use these pits as a source of energy to power their units.
