Climate Change Nexus and Its Impact on Mango Cultivation: Novel Strategies to Combat Pests and Diseases, Unraveling Phytosanitary Issues and Insights into Global Trade Trends

Mango (Mangifera indica) holds cultural, nutritional, medicinal, industrial and economic value across the globe. This fruit is a main contributor in international trade but its cultivation experiences evolving constraints due to climate change. Key mango-producers have witnessed changes in flowering, fruiting and yield because of these environmental shifts. The emergence of new pests and diseases impends mango production. Traditional farming tools are no longer ample in handling these new risks. It is the most pressing need for the mango industry to prefer sustainable practices. Use of precision agriculture, smarter irrigation techniques and bio-based pest intervention can serve as a strategic approach to minimize the impact of environmental shifts on mango productivity. To address the challenges generated by climate change, incorporating breeding programs, biotechnology and nanotechnology based solutions into pest management can represent a transformative approach. Innovations in logistics like improved cold chain systems can prove fruitful for ensuring a stable global mango supply, especially as climate change negatively impacts production patterns. Globally, strict phytosanitary measures including upgraded inspections and certifications are needed to uphold the high standards required for mango export. This chapter focuses on novel strategies to combat rising pest threats, address phytosanitary challenges in global trade, examine climate change impacts on mango production and supply chains and stresses the need for sustainable practices to heighten mango production.
