The choice of the rights-based approach and narrative to prevent and address environmental internal displacement is already developed in a consequent body of academic literature. The concrete potential of the approach for public policy instruments in terms of environmental internal displacement is far less common. This is precisely what is done in the chapter. Focusing on environmental displacement prevention in public policy instruments, we find an undeniable potential stemming on the Inter-American Court of Human Rights’ case law in terms of rights and obligations content for environmental displacement three pillars: exposure, vulnerabilities, and root-causes.
