Transferring the Classification System for Teachers’ Motivational Behaviours Recommended in Self-Determination Theory Interventions to Physical Education
摘要
In this book chapter, we adapt the classification system for teachers’ motivational behaviours recommended in self-determination theory interventions (Ahmadi et al., Journal of Educational Psychology, 115(8), 1158–1176, 2023) to physical education. This classification provides a list of teachers’ behaviours that support or thwart the basic psychological needs for autonomy, competence and relatedness, including their description, function description and motivational effect. We include different examples of these behaviours applied to physical education trying to cover a wide range of contents, tasks and teaching units. The objective of this adaptation is to supply specific examples that could inspire ideas to develop motivational interventions in physical education. The examples could also help better understand the different teachers’ behaviours that compose this classification system. It would be interesting that physical education teachers and researchers implement these motivational techniques, trying to analyse their effects on different consequences related to the students’ teaching-learning processes, the development of positive experiences and the promotion of physical activity outside the school.
