Advanced training in imaging informatics is ideal for those interested in problem-solving with technology or building solutions for quality improvement in radiology. Imaging informatics training used to be limited to residency programs that had a concentration of experts in the field. Now, there are a number of resources with which to gain more experience in the field and more than a dozen fellowship programs that can provide advanced training to radiologists finishing their training or already in practice. This chapter describes the field of imaging informatics, the typical content of a fellowship program, the relationship to clinical informatics, and the importance of the specialty. We also discuss relevant certifications that can be used to demonstrate proficiency in informatics.
