Ubiratan D’Ambrosio has been considered as the father of ethnomathematics; above all, in his conception of the term Ethnomathematics. Having been academically ‘born’ into ethnomathematics, Paulus Gerdes was very important in the ethnomathematics movement. Both were interested in the History and Epistemology of Mathematics, from the perspective of ethnomathematics. Here, I will try to highlight some of their ideas and discuss implications.
