This work aims to delve into the implementation of production leveling by comparing the used methodologies in three different contexts (batch production, Job shop production, and mixed model assembly line in high-volume production). A review is conducted to synthesize the available literature in scientific publications. The study also included three important Toyota Production Systems (TPS) books to discover how its pioneers explained the concept of production leveling and its implementation. The analysis showed us that despite the differences in the three studied contexts, the implementation of production leveling contains three common phases: selection of the products to be leveled, grouping of the chosen products into families, the elaboration of the leveling pattern (defining the quantity and the sequence of the mix of products).
